“Business as Unusual” was the theme of the ninth annual Service Design Global Conference held in Amsterdam and it forms the feature theme for the new Touchpoint issue. In its play on words, it recognises that service design is more and more becoming an established way of ‘doing business’, whether in organisations, or in places such as the public sector.
DC hosted its’ 4th Annual Service Jam this year, in at the beautiful and open studios of Maga Design. This marked the first jam that was organized in partnership with our SDN Washington DC chapter.
The conference successfully enabled connections between service designers and researchers. The event created an opportunity for 300 attendees from the private sector, government, academia and NGO's to come together to shape the conversation of a design discipline still finding its voice in Canada. SDN DC hosted a happy hour together with other DC-based design organizations, DT:DC, HealthCare Experience Design DC and UNleaded - over 60 people gathered to mingle over food, wine and drinks.

Last Saturday Oliver King (Engine) and Birgit Mager (SDN) announced the Service Design Award finalists and winners during the Service Design Global Conference in Amsterdam. The Award recognises outstanding work in the field of service design in commercial, public sector and academic categories. Congratulations to all of the winners!
Members Day at De Rode Hoed in Amsterdam on the 26th was a sight to behold, with over 350 of our members attending the pre-conference event.
