Dear SDN Members,
Join us for the upcoming SDN Global Café on December 17, where we spotlight Alissa Millenson, winner of the Service Design Award 2025 for Best Commercial Project. Alissa will share how service design reshaped spare-parts operations across six wind farms—turning inconsistent, time-wasting processes into a streamlined, data-driven system that teams rely on every day.
In this engaging session, Alissa will walk us through the design journey: uncovering 168 pain points across people, processes, data, and technology; co-designing future workflows with technicians and managers; and rolling out new SAP Fiori apps, standardized processes, and clean, structured data. She’ll also reflect on what this project shows about the potential of service design to drive measurable operational impact in industrial environments.
About the project:
A major energy company struggled with inconsistent spare-parts management in its onshore renewables division—leading to low morale, wasted time, poor inventory accuracy, and costly downtime. Through a human-centered, three-phase transformation, the team boosted inventory accuracy from 11–30% to over 90%, reduced inventory task time by more than 15%, and unlocked an expected $2M in cost savings. The work also strengthened collaboration between sites and headquarters, proving how service design can deliver tangible operational and financial results.
