The New Normal is Today

The world is a rapidly evolving landscape. Organisational complexity is growing, user expectations are intensifying, and the digital landscape's ongoing evolution finds service designers squarely faced with the challenges and opportunities that come with the next wave of change. 

At the Service Design Network, we are committed to ensuring that you stay informed of the trending topics shaping our practice's future and remain connected to the critical voices that are innovating, impacting and elevating its standing on the global stage. Nevertheless, these unprecedented times call for new ways of thinking and acting which led us to reach out to our Chapter community to help brainstorm opportunities to best support our member community's power and purpose. 

This co-creative process resulted in some exciting developments! 

Accordingly, the SDN is pleased to announce today, the launch of the Going Glocal Meetup series—an online platform that fosters the sharing of ideas, data, experiences and expertise for the benefit of practitioners worldwide and the advancement of that knowledge to their local communities.  

The Future of Service Design

The Going Glocal Meetup will be hosted in three regions (Americas, EMEA, AsiaPac). The kick-off will feature a total of three events co-hosted by two regional SDN chapters.

The theme for our upcoming meetups will focus around the Future of Service Design study developed by SDN President Birgit Mager. Generated as a follow-up to her 2020 summit of the same name, this joint venture is the end-result of conversations had with the global service design community and the many pioneers and industry experts who openly shared their knowledge. Focused around the emerging issues and opportunities for our still young, yet mature practice, this meet-up series will be a platform for many inspiring and lively discussions around what lies ahead!

Details of the first Going Glocal Meetup are as follows:

• Date: February 23, 2021
• Host: SDN Dallas and Monterey Chapters
• Time: Noon CST (12-1:30 pm)
• Topic: Future of Service Design
• Attendees: SDN Paid Members-only
• Speakers: Birgit Mager, Jamin Hegeman, Gabriela Salinas
• Platform: Zoom (Members can find the access link to the event on their SDN website dashboard under discounts)

The event will be 1.5 hours in length and while it will feature an exciting line-up of speakers, it is designed to encourage conversations among participants to ensure everyone's voice is heard. Be a part of something important by joining in to learn and share how service design can deliver a smarter, happier future for everyone. 

Future Going Glocal Meetups include EMEA/Finland in April and AsiaPac/Japan in June.
