School of Design and Arts, Beijing Institute of technology (BIT) grew out of Department of Industrial Design, which was set up in 1984. BIT is among the first universities which established the discipline of industrial design.
Through over 20 years of practice and exploration, School of Design and Arts have enjoyed leading position in design education field in the PRC. and became a member of Ministry of Education Industrial Design Teaching Steering Committee. In order to meet the developing social economy on the demand for design talents, Design & Art School was established in 2002, then renamed as School of Design & Arts in 2009, and gradually formed its feature of design combining art based on science and technology.
