JAMK is a nationally accredited, multi-disciplinary institution of higher education. We offer education in eight fields of study and have over 30 degree programmes. We have three Bachelor’s degree programmes and two Master’s degree programmes at JAMK which are conducted in English.

At JAMK, international cooperation is highly valued and internationalisation is actively supported in all of our operations. It is also one core track in our strategy in addition to quality of learning and entrepreneurship. One of our strategic goals is to be “the best university of applied sciences in Finland in internationalising its operational environment”.

Our international cooperation includes cross-border education and RDI-work between higher education institutions and business life, a wide range of joint research projects, networks, joint degree programmes, foreign students and staff, active student and staff mobility and an operational environment that enables internationalisation.

We have close to 300 partners in a large area in Europe, Latin America, Asia, Australia, and Africa. A great deal of the partners, as well as JAMK, are participating in the Erasmus of the Life Long Learning Programme. JAMK has also been granted the Extended Erasmus University Charter. In addition to education we offer research and development services for business life and industry helping to create an international Central Finland.

Our basic tasks are to

•provide higher education based on the requirements of working life
•carry out applied research, development and innovation activities (RDI) that serve UAS education and support the world of work and regional development
•organise continuing education to sustain and promote lifelong learning in working life.

Lutakko Living Lab- Designing Services with people

JAMK hosts the Lutakko Living Lab that is a real life R&D&I environment located in Lutakko district.  Lutakko Living Lab aims to create better services in cooperation with service users.  Lutakko Living Lab realizes service design activities together with local businesses and organizations which mostly operate in the tourism, events, ICT and knowledge intensive business sectors.  Lutakko Living Lab is a member of the European network of Living Labs, under the name of Human Tech LivingLab.

Lutakko Living Lab has been using service design methods for:

●    understanding the Trade Fair Centre’s customer needs and also for creating new service ideas and improvements
●    collecting customers’ views on dream event services for Restaurant Idea
●    idea creation of a dream grocery store
●    studying student users’ views on mobile learning
●    developing public library and dance school services
●    studying trade fair visitors´ views on dream hotel services
●    creating a better living environment via iLutakko ideation community www.ilutakko.fi

Service Design Toolkit project 2010-2012

The possibilities of using service design methodology in tourism service development are being studied in the Service Design Toolkit project. The project operates with five Finnish destinations and company networks, and participates to their service design processes. The aim is to analyze the processes in case studies and find advantages in using service design methods.

The outcomes of the project are:

●    Better understanding of target groups.
●    Customer insights in usable form for the regional business networks.
●    A study of the best service design methods for tourism service development.
●    A Service Design toolkit, which can serve tourism businesses and regional organizations in customer-oriented product development.
