Service Designer

Service Designer Mid-weight Barnardo's Innovation Lab team are looking to recruit a service designer.

Service Designer Mid-weight Barnardo's Innovation Lab team are looking to recruit a service designer with either at least 2 years professional experience of service design, user research or an MA qualification with some work experience. The Innovation Lab team is a small and dedicated team of service designers, researchers, product delivery and developers. Our team's primary mission is to uncover, test and develop innovative ideas and practices so Barnardo's can meet the challenges of modern society and create better outcomes for more children. As a service designer in the Innovation Lab team, you will be expected to apply design thinking and approaches to create either aspects of, or a complete journey of a service - you will use evidence-based and human-centred approaches to do this, and you will work directly with children and young people to co-design solutions that work for them. You will also work directly with colleagues from across Barnardo's to ensure that everything we do aligns with the Barnardo's Corporate Strategy - https://www.barnardos.org.uk/sites/default/files/2021-11/Impact%20Report%202020-21.pdf

The work will involve developing online, offline and blended approaches, depending on the user need. The output could be developing aspects of a service, laying the foundations for a product, enabling an ecosystem for systems change within a specific location or contributing to the teams' Insights Library. This is a great opportunity for a service designer to make a big difference in the social care sector, working to enhance services and experiences for children, young people, their families, as well as those who are delivering these services. We work transparently and in the open in a highly collaborative way. Our team is tight-knit and incredibly supportive of each other, and everyone contributes to this team culture.

Barnardo's is a 150-year-old charity that is on a journey to transform children's social care. The Innovation Lab is responsible for leading a transformation across the whole organisation — inspiring it to take a human-centred, data-driven approach to all our operations, products and services, and building up iteratively from small beginnings to big ideas. The salary range is £35,608 to £45,282. Diversity and representation are extremely important to us and we are committed to applicants from a range of backgrounds - including race, class, ethnicity, disability, neurodiversity, gender and sexual orientation. We are also open to applicants who have lived experience of the social care system as a child or have lived experience of the youth justice system.
