SDGC19 Indy Chapter Mini Recap

This year’s Service Design Network’s Global Conference was held from October 10-12th in Toronto, Ontario. It was filled with service design practitioners from all over the world from all backgrounds.

This was my first service design conference and let's just say "enthusiastic" is an understatement. I was fortunate enough to meet other people who are trying to do the same thing we're all trying to do here in Indy. Putting names to faces from years of reading blogs on Medium as well as the SDN website. I must say, was pretty starstruck when I saw Birgit Mager.

This year most the presentations seemed to showcase the ice berg diagram and (possibly) the death of the double-diamond diagram - It can't be true!

I think I counted around 5 different talks that included it, but in their own ways. Gamification and roleplaying seemed to be an interesting topic within companies to decipher service design identities. This was exceptionally exciting for me since we tried out an internal role-playing game at RATIO to help our team members better understand different roles within the firm. Very successful and we're looking forward to opening it up studio-wide. The 3 days there were eye opening yet reassuring in the direction of where service design is going.

Come to our Thursday meet up this week Nov 21st to hear more!
