Validating Services through Experimentation

A summary of the SDN Netherlands chapter event that was held on 3 Dec 2019

On 3 Dec 2019, the SDN Netherlands chapter held an event titled "Validating Services through Experimentation".

This was an in-depth 'workout' on how to test service improvements within a real context. Schiphol airport and service designers worked together on improving passenger experience on the airport and presented some of their experiments that took place in summer 2019. While many passengers pass through the airport every day, it is a challenge to intervene in this context and learn about the viability, feasibility and desirability of the proposed service improvement.

After the presentations of these experiments, Makerstreet (the event's hosts) organised a session in which teams of three developed a plan for experiment for different challenges the audience had. All-in-all, it was a great, in-depth workout about the methodology of prototyping services and experimenting in real contexts.

Touchpoint 15-3 Call for Papers deadline extended: “Designing from Within”

As the practice of service design continues to gain recognition and traction, a notable trend has emerged: organisations are choosing to build and utilise in-house service design teams rather than relying on external agencies. This shift brings with it a host of considerations, both positive and negative, that merit in-depth exploration and critical reflection.
