New Fee Structure for Professional Membership Debuts

Diversity, equity and inclusion can only truly come to life when they permeate all systems of an organisation.

During the summer of 2020, the Service Design Network pledged to our community (and ourselves) that our organisation would be a leader within the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) space by ensuring it is woven throughout our everyday actions, policies, and practices.

As a first step, we installed the SDN Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force made up of Natalie Kuhn (she/her) and Max Masure (they/them), who are guiding us in reflecting on where we are as an organisation and helping us to create leading examples which support transformation throughout the service design community.

This leads us to announce today the launch of our new financial inclusion programming debuting as part of our Professional Membership profile!

World Bank Country Income Guides New Pricing Structure for Professional Memberships

Eliminating our 180 Euros “flat rate for all”, Professional Membership fees will now be based on your geographical location. Using the World Bank's country income index as a guide, those fees will fall into one of the following economic categories: high income, upper middle income, lower middle income and low income.

The SDN's New Annual Professional Membership Fees:

  • High income - 180 Euros
  • Upper middle income - 120 Euros
  • Lower middle income - 60 Euros
  • Low income - 40 Euros

We are pleased to be kicking off this initiative as we know that it is only by bringing together a truly global collection of minds, insights and perspectives that our network can live up to its vision for itself: An inclusive and welcoming space for all.

And this is only the beginning!

From AI to Synthetic Services

AI continues to disrupt our work as service designers, fundamentally changing the way we design, deliver and analyse services. The advances are rapid as well, presenting new opportunities while at the same time forcing us to answer some challenging questions on where and how its capabilities are deployed. This issue of Touchpoint answers an ongoing need in our community to learn from each other - as well as those outside our field - to confidently apply AI, as well as know where it should be avoided.
