I'm Xinia, an industrial designer with a PhD in design and over fifteen years of professional experience. Throughout my career, I've integrated practice, academia, and consulting to drive projects encompassing product, service, and experience design. I was the executive director of the industrial design school at the Costa Rica Institute of Technology during the period 2021-2025. Currently, I work as a professor, researcher, and outreach specialist at higher education institutions in Costa Rica, training new generations of industrial designers and innovators.
My career has been characterized by promoting human-centered design methodologies, applied innovation, and sustainability. I've led initiatives that connect research, teaching, and collaboration with public and private organizations, contributing to making design a driver of social and economic change in the region. I also actively participate in conferences and professional networks, where I share knowledge and best practices to strengthen the design ecosystem.
Experience and Areas of Expertise
Over 15 years in design: leadership in product, service, and experience design projects with a human-centered approach.
Teaching, research, and university outreach: development and implementation of design programs and projects.
Consulting and advisory services: collaboration with organizations to apply design thinking to improve processes, products, and services.

To me, service design means...
Service design coordinates processes, technologies, and interactions in complex systems to co-create value with all stakeholders. It involves a systemic, holistic, and collaborative approach that seeks to generate value for both users and providers throughout the service lifecycle. In my practice, this translates into understanding people's needs, fostering interdisciplinary work, and transforming data and knowledge into meaningful and sustainable experiences.
