Service Design Award 2025 - Student Finalist

Project Overview

DiaLog is a digital health platform designed to empower women and non-binary individuals aged 25-45 in the UK who are experiencing "diagnosis limbo" - the challenging period of uncertainty while awaiting medical diagnosis. In the UK, 80% of the 5.3 million-long NHS waiting list are undiagnosed, with women disproportionately affected by delayed diagnoses, waiting 4-11 years on average for conditions like endometriosis, PCOS, and autoimmune disease.

Context & Challenge

The UK healthcare system s constraints create prolonged diagnostic journeys, particularly for women whose symptoms are often dismissed or minimized. 74% of women visit 5+ doctors before receiving correct diagnoses, while 78% report their concerns being minimized. This systemic challenge leaves patients feeling isolated, overwhelmed, and powerless during critical health journeys.

Target Market

5.7 million women in the UK await diagnosis or suspect women s health issues. We specifically target those experiencing persistent symptoms without clear diagnoses for over a year.

Objectives

  • Help patients regain control and confidence in their health journey
  • Provide tools for resilience and self-understanding during medical uncertainty
  • Decrease isolation through community connection
  • Create inclusive support for those without formal diagnoses
  • Promote sustainable, planet-positive healthcare practices
