Hello! My name is Katie Murrie, a service design educator, advocate, and co-creator of the Service Design Academy (SDA) in Dundee, Scotland. Since its inception, I’ve been deeply involved in shaping SDA’s journey, from its roots within a local College to becoming the world’s first SDN-accredited organisation and now, an employee owned organisation. 

Over the past 8 years, I’ve led the development of impactful learning experiences that empower individuals and organisations to solve problems, identify opportunities, and drive meaningful change through service design.


I’ve had the privilege of working with the Service Design Network in several capacities:

  • Member of the SDN Accreditation Committee, contributing to the development of global standards
  • First person in Scotland to receive SDN Master Trainer accreditation
  • Contributor and guest editor for Touchpoint journal
  • Former member of the SDN UK Chapter
  • Regular attendee and supporter of the SDGC, both in-person and online

My work spans public, private and third sector transformation, local government innovation, and embedding service design into education systems. I am proud to be one of the co-founders of EduJam (based on the Global Jams concept) which ultimately led to the publication of 'Transforming Higher Education With Human-Centred Design'   I believe that a 'designerly' mindset should be nurtured from an early age, equipping young people with the tools to navigate and shape an ever-changing world.

To me, service design means...

Service design has fundamentally transformed how I think, work, and live. It’s more than a methodology, it’s a mindset that reframes challenges and unlocks potential. I’m passionate about sharing this mindset with others, helping them build confidence and capability to innovate collaboratively and sustainably.
