Design Configurations and Narratives

Alok Nandi

Alok Nandi

IxDA - Interaction Design Association President
While design thinking is still in its hype curve (hence evangelising what design could be), we will assume here the role of design is to integrate insights and provoke changes. This requires moving from monocultures (marketing-centric or tech-centric) to place where the hybrid makes sense, and design practitioners are these agents able to articulate change making and sense-making by providing “updated design configurations”.

If service design is about envisioning the optimal paths provided to users for getting “the service”, this talk will focus on the concept of "narrative journeys":
- as an approach interconnecting touchpoints and interaction lines,
- as a tool ensuring that tech development (physical or digital) and business implementation are aligned.

The ability to abstract will be at the core of the questions we will explore here, with stories ranging from hospitality and culinary to transportation systems.
