Our vision is to make an extraordinary difference to ordinary South Africans by educating our maturing market about the virtues and positive impact of authentic Service Design.

The SDN South Africa chapter aims to spearhead the growth and awareness of service design as a design discipline in South Africa. In doing so, we wish to increase demand for and exposure of skilled service design practitioners with local corporations, businesses and government.
The general quality of service experiences in South Africa is low, and so the growth of service design as an industry will ultimately enhance the lives of consumers and citizens through better and more efficient services at every level.
Service design is still in its infancy in South Africa when compared to Europe and other industries abroad. The practice is still poorly understood, either being ignored entirely or seen as part of or one and the same as UX. Very few educational institutions offer service design as part of a curriculum, and even then, it is a subset of what they provide.
While this is a significant challenge, the founding team are strong believers in the benefits that can be created by building a community and local expertise.
