Sold out! The First Service Design Business Meetup

Many companies are applying, or are considering applying, service design. They have achieved great outcomes, gathered experiences, but have also encountered questions and problems. Service design has achieved a maturity, and it is about time to connect companies so that they can share their insights and build on them.

Meetups, the increasingly popular interest-based networking events, are a way to successfully connect these companies, and we firmly believe the local chapters of SDN can play an important role as a facilitator and a platform provider.

To that end, we are excited that SDN Finland, KONE Corporation, one of the global leaders in the elevator and escalator industry, and Nordea, the largest financial services group in Northern Europe, took the initiative to organise the first Service Design Business Meetup.

Paula Bello, senior design specialist at KONE, explains how she perceives the prospects of such meetups: “KONE is building its in-house service design competence, and we hope that, with this event, we establish networks with other industries that are going through similar process. We believe that we can all benefit from sharing experiences: from very practical tips on best practices to the ‘big’ challenges that are faced in such a process.” She adds: “Personally, I started this with the idea of building a sort of ‘therapy group’ for service-minded people who are going through the very exciting but highly demanding task of building a service design competence. In other words, a very informal get-together to share stories that can help us figure out what works and what doesn’t work.”

This first meetup has stirred a lot of interest and was sold out within a few weeks. However, we invite you to stay tuned for the upcoming meetups. If you are part of a company that would be interested in hosting one of the meetups, don’t hesitate to contact your local chapter.

Mikko Koivisto, pioneer of service design, chosen to receive the Ornamo Award

Service designer Mikko Koivisto has won the Ornamo Award of 2017. Koivisto, the Lead Service Designer and Customer Experience Director of the Hellon service design agency, is one of Finland’s first academically trained professionals in service design. He has been involved in developing this field both in Finland and abroad.
