Dear SDN Members,

Join us for the upcoming SDN Global Café on 3 December, 2025, where we spotlight Bloom Works, winners of Service Design Award 2025, Best Non-Profit Project, as they share how service design can help keep families together.

In this inspiring session, Anissa Pérez and Sonya Silva will walk us through the design approach behind their impactful work—exploring the challenges faced by families, the insights uncovered through research, and the service solutions that strengthen support systems. They’ll also reflect on what this project reveals about the broader potential of service design in the social sector and beyond.

About the project:
In the United States, Bloom Works helped develop new licensing standards and plain-language forms that enable child welfare agencies to approve kin caregiver homes more quickly and equitably. These standards help children remain with their families and communities—where outcomes are significantly better—while reducing stress, time, and financial burden for both families and caseworkers. Since launch, every U.S. state and at least five Native American tribes have adopted or expressed strong interest in adopting the standards.

During the session, Bloom Works will share how these standards were co-designed with more than 50 child welfare agencies in just 18 months. They’ll discuss how accessible tools, transparency, and iterative collaboration helped build momentum for early adoption and implementation, all while centering trust and equity for families historically harmed by the child welfare system.

Take this opportunity to learn from leading practitioners in non-profit innovation and connect with the global SDN community!
