About Markus Hormeß
SDGC18 Keynote speaker on stage with Jakob Schneider
Markus is co-founder of WorkPlayExperience, a service innovation consultancy. He loves to work and coach at the intersection of design, business and technology – building on his experience of service design and business consulting, and on his background in theoretical physics. The focal point of his work is prototyping in service design, where he constantly pushes the boundaries of what a dedicated team can achieve with limited resources. Markus is co-initiator of the Global Service Jam as well as the Global Sustainability Jam and the Global GovJam. He teaches service design at various universities and gives public and private executive courses.
Markus’s interest in Service Design
While we generally agree on the usefulness of many methods and tools in service design, we all struggle when it comes to long-term, real-world implementation. Markus and Jakob, who together with Marc and Adam just published This is Service Design Doing, will use this session to share their perspective on the doing part of service design. They will draw parallels between business realities and their co-creative approach to designing a 600 page business book. We hear about pivots, the limits of iterations, how to sell service design to non-believers, and why projects take 2 years longer than expected.
