Talk

'Manifest Dismantling'

This talk will center on the idea of "manifest dismantling," a term intended to contrast the 19th century idea of Manifest Destiny and its ideological echoes. I will give what I consider to be examples of manifest dismantling, such as dam removal, creek daylighting, and do-nothing farming. If these efforts seem to be facing "backwards," it is only from the viewpoint of blindly "forward"-facing, capitalistic, and unsustainable ideas of progress.
