About Anna Whicher
My main professional interest is in developing, implementing and evaluating government policies using design methods. Design Thinking, Service Design and Design for Policy are all creative approaches to problem-solving that engage users and stakeholders at every stage of the development process. As Head of Design Policy at PDR (International Design and Research Centre) at Cardiff Metropolitan University, I am responsible for developing partnerships, drafting proposals, leading networks, conducting research, developing strategies and evaluating impact for government, enterprise agencies, sector councils and trade associations.
Since 2009, I have been managing a portfolio of multi-million pound European, research council and government contracts. I have led these initiatives through their entire lifespan from developing the initial concepts, assembling partnerships and submitting the proposals through to conducting research, developing strategies, managing the finances and evaluating the impact. Examples include EU projects on innovation policies and programmes, consultancy for trade associations and strategy development for regional and national governments.
I'm an accredited Master Service Design trainer for SDN and a board member of the Bureau of European Design Associations (BEDA). I have conducted training for local, regional, national and international governments including Essex County Council, Belfast City Council, Cork County Council, Welsh Government, Scottish Enterprise, Zero Waste Scotland, Northern Ireland Department for Finance, Government Digital Service, HMRC Digital, Cabinet Office Policy Lab, Financial Conduct Authority, Polish Agency for Enterprise, Latvian School of Public Administration and the European Central Bank, among many others.
