International Service Design Network – SDN Taiwan chapter

In recent years, Taiwan’s service design has started to flourish and besides service design courses offered in schools, industries are starting to become increasingly interested in the concept; seminars and workshops are also quickly emerging.

Therefore, with the huge output and the participation of different organizations, we believe this is an appropriate time to apply for the sdn Taiwan chapter. We hope that service design can flourish through the establishment of the sdn Taiwan chapter and have a positive impact on the industry and society. We also hope that Taiwan can become a base to spread the force of service design to other countries in Asia and attract more people to join.

In 2008, when Tsinghua University Institute established the Institute of Service Science, service innovation and service design was included in the curriculum as required and elective courses. Starting in 2009, the Industrial Technology Research  Institute was responsible for the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ “Dechnology” project which combined service design and design thinking, and cooperated with forward technology of 8 research institutions to create new innovative technology value and develop products and services that fulfill user needs and have the potential to be commercialized. The establishment of the Service Science Society of Taiwan in 2011 was a major milestone for service innovation and service design; seminars, courses, and workshops were held regularly to educate the public, and the Service Design Gourmet social platform was also established. In 2013, the Dreamvok team initiated 5% Design Action which applied service design in important social welfare issues.
