SDN South Africa Chapter Launch

Following the first launch in Cape town, Thursday the 19th of September, was officially the date for the second of the two launch events for the SDN South Africa chapter!

With around 70 attendees, the event was extremely well received and managed to tackle significant issues revolving around service design in South Africa, and how the government could utilise it to ensure a better future for South Africa. The speakers at the event proposed different ideas about the chapter's mission, vision, initiatives, and goals.

Jesse Grimes introduced service design as a concept, and how it assists organisations to see their services from customer perspective. He also highlighted the balance required between the customer needs and the business needs.

Moreover, Roscoe Segers, one of the chapter's founding team, and senior service and interaction designer at Fjord, shared the chapter's mission, and thus its aspiration to better shape South Africa through service design. He emphasised on the extraordinary difference Service design, in maturing markets, can offer for ordinary Africans.

Sivan Lapidus, head of service design for virtual channels at Absa, and Eras Gous, covered matters regarding the government in specific and how it could use service design to shape a better future for South Africa.

In addition, Hazel Scrimgeour shared an incentive concerned with improving employment amongst youth in South African townships.
