Background

Climate change is one of the most urgent challenges we face as a society. By 2030, conditions that now seem extreme will be the new normal, posing unprecedented challenges to social, economic, and ecological systems. Climate change impacts also exacerbate and multiply existing disparities and pain points in our communities. This new context requires us to start designing for this future today.

These impacts also present challenges that service designers are uniquely suited to tackling—they are complex, intersectional, and expansive in scope and geography. Despite having the right tools for the job, our role in this sector has yet to be thoroughly explored or defined. Our goal as a working group is to lay the foundation for this work and support the application of service design to address climate change through the generation of research, best practices, tools, and/or other projects/products. Join us as we build a community of practice around this intersection.
