Celebrating Service Design Day with the Emergency Design Collective

Details

June 1st is International Service Design Day and we can’t wait to celebrate with you! What is Service Design Day? SDD is a world-wide event to bring together people from different backgrounds and disciplines – together, organizations across the globe celebrate service design, raise awareness and create impact in the world around us. A little more about Service Design Day https://www.service-design-network.org/sdday and remember to join the conversation with #ServiceDesignDay #SDDay20

The SDN NYC Chapter is excited to spotlight the Emergency Design Collective as part of the celebration. The Emergency Design collective is a group of over 500 doctors, designers, public health experts, and academics using human centered design to create rapid responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and future public health crises. The EDC is committed to open source work which includes publishing research, insights, and proven solutions to ensure maximum scalability. The EDC’s 20+ projects fall under one of three categories:

  • Design for frontline healthcare and healthcare workers
  • Design for vulnerable populations
  • Design for the new normal

The Emergency Design Collective began applying for non-profit status in April 2020. https://emergencydesigncollective.com/

We look forward to having Nick Dawson tell us a little more about the EDC’s mission and projects, hearing three lightning-talk-formatted stories about different people’s experiences during the pandemic, reflecting through discussion, and ideating around ways we can contribute our skills to help address plethora of breakdowns in systems happening right now.

Nick has a background in bringing human centered design into healthcare, health policy, and community health. Prior to co-founding the EDC he was the Executive Director of Innovation for Kaiser Permanente. Previously, Nick led the Innovation Hub at Johns Hopkins Medicine, and was Program Chair of Stanford’s Medicine X program. He worked with President Obama’s White House on health policy, ebola response, and the opioid crisis.
