Flight
The conference venue is only 18 kilometres (about 20 min by car) from Madeira International Airport, from which Madeira is well connected to the European mainland. Daily flights between Lisbon and Funchal take only 1 hour 25 min and it takes about two hours to get to central European airports.

Brochure and Maps
Below, you can download a brochure as well as maps of Madeira and Funchal as pdf files (published by the official Madeira Tourist Board), which will help you get a first impression and an overview of the island. The brochure contains useful information on location and climate, nature, walks, wellness, gastronomy, culture and animation.
Get around
Car rental
The island has a wide range of car rental companies. To get more information, contact your travel agency, the rent-a-car counters at Madeira International Airport or ask at the hotel.
Public transport
If you prefer to use public transport, there are several bus companies that will take you around at low cost. The bus stations of all these companies are in Funchal, so they are easy to get to. The tourist information offices can provide you with guides of the bus timetables and routes.
Taxi
Taxis are available at Madeira airport and the main hotels, and there are taxi ranks in a number of streets and squares in Funchal. The normal rate is EUR 1.70 or EUR 2.00 (on working days between 10pm and 7am and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays).

Shopping
The shops are open from 9 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 7 pm, Monday to Friday. On Saturdays they are open from 9 am to 1 pm. Some shopping centres are open from 10 am to 10 pm every day. Major credit cards are accepted in most shops, restaurants and hotels.
Banks are open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Documents required
Visitors coming from EU countries belonging to the Schengen Agreement have unrestricted entry. Visitors from non-Schengen countries need a valid passport and, in some cases, a visa.
Customs Formalities
There are no restrictions on goods leaving the island. However, if the customs officers think the quantity is excessive, they may ask you to prove that the items are for your personal use.
Health
You do not need any special vaccines before coming to Madeira. Emergency hospital treatment is free of charge for European Union citizens and there is a private health service to provide medical assistance to visitors of other nationalities.
