Service Design Competition
Topic: “automotive mobility and future services”

sponsored by

Intention

The intention of this competition is to find new services to keep people (auto)mobile. Modern life and new work realities change our behaviour and mobility needs. For many people vehicles have become an essential part of their daily lives as they use it for travel, work and leisure activities. On the other hand, especially in urban environments, many people don't use cars at all as they don’t comply with their needs, wishes and lifestyles.

Submissions should address one or more of the following scopes:

  • Which automotive services would support you in your daily tasks and increase your convenience and ease of working/living?
  • Which services would increase the benefits of having/using cars?
  • Which services do you miss in vehicles and what would such services look and feel like?
  • What role do navigation, media use and communication play in mobile lifestyles?
  • How can environmental issues regarding automobiles be addressed and taken into consideration?
  • Which social aspects of mobile lifestyles and (virtual) communities benefit from automotive services?

Participation

Submissions are welcome from Service Designers from around the world; as well as students, organizations or companies. Participating groups may consist of a maximum of three people.

Submission and Selection Procedure

Submission may contain an explanatory text (no longer than 3,500 characters) and a maximum of five visuals that can be uploaded on our platform by September 15, 2009. From all submissions, the jury which consists of international Service Design professionals as well as representatives of Volkswagen AG, will nominate three winning presentations. The winners of the competition will be informed by the committee one month prior to this year’s Service Design Conference on Madeira. The first prize winner will be presented at the conference, taking place 26th to 27th October 2009 on Madeira, Portugal.
